Mount Emin is one of the major peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, situated along the Uganda–Democratic Republic of Congo border within Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Rising to approximately 4,798 meters (15,742 feet), Mount Emin forms part of the northern section of the Rwenzori range and is known for its rugged alpine terrain and relative isolation.
Often overshadowed by Mount Stanley and Mount Speke, Mount Emin remains a serious objective for experienced trekkers seeking a quieter, more demanding high-altitude experience in the Rwenzori Mountains.
Geographic Location of Mount Emin
Mount Emin lies north of Mount Gessi and northeast of Mount Stanley, forming a distinct massif within the central Rwenzori Mountains. The mountain straddles the international boundary between Uganda and DR Congo, contributing to its remote and less frequently visited character.
The peak is typically approached via the Central Circuit Trail, often as part of extended multi-peak expeditions that include Mount Gessi and Mount Speke.

Mount Emin is named after Mehmed Emin Pasha, a German-Ottoman physician, explorer, and administrator active in East and Central Africa during the late 19th century. His work and expeditions contributed to early European understanding of East Africa’s interior.
The naming honors the period of exploration that led to the systematic documentation of the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon.
