Meet your guide and transfer to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park gatesΒ briefing point at Mihunga. After registration, safety briefing, and meeting your guides and porters, the trek begins.
The trail follows the Mubuku River through dense tropical forest, crossing the Mahoma River before a steady climb onto a high ridge. Along the way, you may hear chimpanzees and spot black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and the brightly colored Rwenzori turaco.
Arrive at Nyabitaba Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Nyabitaba Hut (2,651m) β John Matte Hut (3,380m)

After breakfast, descend through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, located at the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. The trail then enters a bamboo forest before tackling a long, slippery stretch of moss-covered rock.
From Nyamuleju Rock Shelter, enjoy your first clear views of Mount Stanley, Margherita Peak, and Mount Speke. Vegetation transitions into giant heather, lobelia, and alpine flora as you ascend.
Reach John Matte Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: John Matte Hut (3,380m) β Bujuku Hut (3,962m)

Elevation gain: +582m
Descend briefly to cross the Bujuku River, then enter the Lower Bigo Bog, famous for its giant lobelias and long wooden boardwalks. The open valley creates a surreal alpine atmosphere.

A steep forested section leads into the Upper Bigo Bog, eventually opening to Lake Bujuku, set between Mount Baker and Mount Stanley.
Arrive at Bujuku Hut, an important base for climbers heading to Mount Speke and Mount Stanley. Overnight at the hut.
Day 4: Bujuku Hut (3,977m) β Elena Hut (4,541m)
Hiking time: 5β6 hours
Elevation gain: +564m
After crossing muddy terrain, begin a steep climb through forests of giant groundsels toward Groundsel Gully. The trail ascends sharply to Scott Elliot Pass (4,372 m),Β the highest point on the Central Circuit.
From the pass, enjoy panoramic views of Mount Baker, Mount Luigi di Savoia, and the upper slopes of Mount Stanley. The descent to Elena Hut is rocky and can be slippery in wet or icy conditions.
