January (Beginning of the Dry Season)

In January, the dry season commences, and the weather in Lake Mburo National Park is very favorable, attracting visitors all over the world to discover the untamed beauty of this small yet intriguing park. The rains in April make the trails slippery and difficult to navigate, making travel this month quite unfavorable. The park still offers guided nature walks. May (Rain Reduces Toward Month-End)

May is the continuation of the rainy season in Lake Mburo; however, the rains continue to decrease as the month gets in the middle. The mix of sunny and cloudy weather makes the game drives very enjoyable as animals become more active in the open savannah landscapes. June is the beginning of the long dry season; the weather has transitioned from the rainy season to the sunny, pleasant weather, making it perfect for all activities, including game viewing.

July (Peak Season and Peak Wildlife Viewing)

June is the beginning of the dry season, making it among the best months to visit Lake Mburo. The weather is perfect for outdoor activities, and wildlife viewing is at its peak. This season is also regarded as the peak season in Uganda and in Lake mburo national park  . Activities like cycling are very enjoyable during the month of July with so many people embarking on this adventure. Horse riding is also at its peak in the month of July with dry trails. Visitors to Lake Mburo have an opportunity to enjoy the incredible environment, catching beautiful views of the sunsets on the evening boat cruises or spotting the rare predators, leopards, and nocturnal animals like the bush babies that are active  at night on a night game drive.

August (Dry, Clear and Wildlife-Rich)

August is another incredible month, as the dry season continues to provide visitors with excellent opportunities to experience the wide diversity of Lake Mburo. Visitors can enjoy stunning landscapes from several hills, such as Kigambire, explore the various lakes in the park—primarily Lake Mburo—and observe a variety of wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, buffalos, and aquatic animals like crocodiles and hippos during a game drive. Birdwatching remains a highlight in the month of August. Sunset cruises on the lake are especially popular in August, offering breathtaking views as the sun shrouds the sky in its goldish shades.

September (Transition Back to Rains)

September is the start of the rain season; the month is a combination of rain and sunshine. As the month begins, it is the sunny season, and as the month comes to an end, rain starts. Wildlife viewing is still doable during this time of the year. Walking in the park is wonderful, but some activities may not be possible in September. Game drives during this month can still be done as the month commences, and towards the end, the trails start getting muddy and challenging to navigate.

October (Heavy Rains Return)

October is associated with heavy rain, and Lake Mburo experiences a low season this month  . Visitors to Lake Mburo during this month are advised to navigate the park using a 4×4 safari vehicle to ensure their safety and comfort. Heavy rains and cool weather make most activities challenging. The cool weather is ideal for enjoying scenic views of the lush greenery in the park and for photography.

November (Wet but Manageable)

November is another rainy season, but the rains during this month are not heavy enough to disrupt activities. The only issue with the rain during this month is that rain can drizzle all day. Nature walks can be done with less direct sunlight. Activities like game drives can still be done comfortably with a 4×4 safari vehicle.  However, outdoor activities like cycling and horse riding may not be possible, as the trails are too slippery.

December (Start of the Short Dry Season)

December is the beginning of the dry season and is an optimal time to travel with abundant sunshine that ensures the trails are dry. Lake Mburo can be explored on game drives, boat safaris, horseback riding, and cycling. Nature walks are also very enjoyable during the month of December. It’s great to visit Lake Mburo with family and friends, as the festive season adds a special touch to traveling this month. The sundowner experience in the park is at its best, especially on a boat ride in Lake Mburo or while on a game drive.
