Day 1: Nyakalengija (1650m) β Nyabitaba Camp (2650m)
This 5-dayΒ Rwenzori Trek to Edwardβs Peak begins at Mihunga Gate, at the mountainβs foot. The official welcome and orientation for the 5-day Mount Baker hike will take place there. Your guides, whom you will also meet at this point, will direct you along the trails to the peak.
The steep topography supports a diverse range of animals, including three-horned chameleons, Rwenzori turacos, and playful colobus monkeys. Climb through its lush, towering trees to reach the summit. On this day, you will arrive at the camp after crossing rivers and navigating steep, challenging terrain. Relax in the shade of the Nyabitaba hut, a traditional wooden cottage, while admiring the stunning views of the gateway peaks from your campground.

Day 2: Nyabitaba (2650 m)βGuyeoman Camp (3505 m)
From Nyabitaba, just take a left and enjoy the forest trail for about half an hour, and youβll find yourself at the Kichuchu bridge.

After that, youβll enjoy a couple of hours of pleasant walking through the bamboo forest. Then, things get a bit more challenging, almost like an adventure, as you navigate a long, tiring stretch of moss-covered rocks. As you ascend from the Kichuchu rock shelter, you can spot the gateway peaks and then step into the beautiful groundsel, lobelia, and impressive heather zone. Once youβve made it through the tiring bog, youβll finally reach Guyeoman camp. While youβre here, take a moment to enjoy the stunning view of Mount Baker in all its glory.

Day 3: Guyeoman CampβFreshfield Pass (4023m)
The trail begins at Guyeoman Camp and gently descends to cross the Mubuku River. It then leads to the Lower Bujongolo Rock Shelter, where the Italians stayed during their 1906 expedition. Following a brief respite, the track climbs sharply, jumping from tussock to tussock.

You eventually cross the bog, but your feet may end up slipping into the icy sludge. As you continue, youβll reach Upper Freshfield Pass, where, on a clear day, you can see Kitandara Lakes Camp, Congolese homesteads, and the majestic Stanley, Baker, and Weisman Peaks.

Day 4: Summit Mount BakerβReturn to Guyeoman Camp
On the fourth day of your five-day climb of Mount Baker, you will begin your ascent to the summit. Traverse the alpine zone of the Rwenzori Mountains, which is rich in groundsel. You will travel through the groundsel valley until you reach the exposed cliffs of Mount Baker. Persevere through the rugged terrain until you reach Edward Peak, Mount Bakerβs highest peak. In this scenario, you can see Mount Stanleyβs glacier, as well as the valleys below and the glacier-formed lakes. The sky and the sun are also clearly visible. After youβve taken all of the essential shots, begin your journey down to the Guyeoman camp for the night.

Day 5: Guyeoman Camp β Nyabitaba β Nyakalengija
You have 5 days to go until you reach Mount Bakerβs peak. You will have begun your journey from Guyeoman and exited the highlands by that point. Trek down the Kichuchu cliff after navigating through the swamp and tussocks once more.

After crossing the Kicuchu bridge, continue into the bamboo jungle. You will reach Nyabitaba after lunch. As you descend the mountain, youβll come across verdant forest scenery. To commemorate your achievement of reaching the peak of Rwenzori, a badge will be provided at the park entry. This trail is great for all hikers because it leads deep into the Rwenzori Mountains, where they can enjoy the beautiful views and peaceful atmosphere. In the Rwenzori Mountains, hikers can experience a peaceful yet exhilarating mountain trek.
Natural landmarks like rivers and lakes can be seen, and the native flora and fauna can be learned about along the route.
