In the morning, your friendly guide/driver will pick you up from either your hotel in Kigali or Kigali International Airport. Depending on the time, you may enjoy a brief Kigali city tour, where you can visit key landmarks, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center and the local markets. Visiting these places in Rwanda allows you to discover Rwanda’s history and vibrant culture.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After the city tour, you will set off on a scenic drive toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey takes you through Rwanda rolling hills, which offer breathtaking views of the terraced rural villages. Along the way, your guide will share many facts about the country’s landscape and culture. Upon reaching the border of Rwanda and Uganda, you will go through the immigration process and embark on your drive to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the home of more than half the world’s gorillas left. Upon arrival, check in at your accommodation, where you will be enjoying dinner and overnight.
The second day of your 3-day gorilla trekking in Bwindi starts with an early breakfast at your accommodation. Afterwards you meet your guide, who will take you to the park headquarters ahead of the briefing before heading for gorilla trekking. You will be assigned a gorilla family to trek after the ranger guide, who will explain the rules and regulations. After finding the gorillas, you will be allowed one magical hour in the presence of these majestic creatures, taking photos and learning how these animals live, behave, and socialize within their gorilla families.
Witnessing the silverback, which leads the gorilla family to show authority or beat its chest, is an unforgettable experience. After an hour with the gorillas, your guide will take you to your lodge for a hot lunch. Visit the Batwa pygmy communities near the forest in the afternoon. The Batwa are the original inhabitants of Bwindi and have lived in harmony with the forest for centuries. During the visit, the Batwa will demonstrate their traditional ways of life, including hunting, gathering, and herbal medicine practices. In the evening you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
On the final day of your 3-day gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you will return to Kigali, marking the end of your safari. Wake up early, and after breakfast embark on the journey back to Kigali. The drive offers another chance to enjoy the stunning views of the Ugandan highlands and the rolling hills of Rwanda. After completing the immigration process and meeting the requirements at the border, you can continue with your journey. You will then be dropped off either at your hotel or at Kigali airport as you reflect on the wonderful experience of observing the endangered gorillas in their natural habitat.
