You can have a once-in-a-lifetime experience trekking with endangered mountain gorillas in their native habitat at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The hike is strenuous but worthwhile because it ends with an hour of watching a habituated family of gorillas.

Located in southwestern Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a biodiverse UNESCO World Heritage site famous for protecting over half of the world’s mountain gorillas, as well as chimpanzees, monkeys, and many bird species. From Kampala, you may reach this site on the edge of the Albertine Rift by road or chartered airplane. It borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is a wonderful place to go bird viewing, walk through dense mountain rainforests, and see mountain gorillas.
