Detailed (day-by-day) itinerary of the 2-day Lake Mburo Safari Extension from the Rwenzori Mountains.
Day 1: Transfer from Rwenzori Region to Lake Mburo National Park & Afternoon Boat Safari
After an early breakfast in the Rwenzori region, you will begin your scenic drive eastwards toward Lake Mburo National Park, passing through rolling countryside, cattle ranches, and traditional Ankole homesteads characterized by their long-horned cattle.
Compared to mountain transfers, this relaxed drive serves as an ideal recovery day after trekking.
Upon arrival at Lake Mburo National Park, you will check in at your lodge and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch while overlooking the savannah or rocky outcrops that define this unique park.
In the afternoon, you will head to Rwonyo Jetty for a guided boat cruise on Lake Mburo, one of the most peaceful wildlife experiences in Uganda. The cruise lasts approximately 2 hours and allows close encounters with:
• Hippopotamuses wallowing near the shoreline
• Nile crocodiles basking on the Lake Mburo banks
• Buffaloes cooling off at the water’s edge
• African fish eagles calling overhead
• Colorful kingfishers, herons, and cormorants
Lake Mburo is also one of the best places in Uganda for birdwatching, with over 330 recorded bird species, and on rare occasions, travelers may spot the elusive shoebill stork.
After the boat safari, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight rest, surrounded by the quiet sounds of the African bush.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Transfer Back to Kampala or Entebbe.
You will wake up to the sounds of nature and enjoy an early breakfast before setting out for a morning game drive through Lake Mburo National Park.

This park is unique because it supports species not commonly found elsewhere in Uganda. During the game drive, you may encounter:
• Burchell’s zebras: Lake Mburo is one of only two parks in Uganda where they inhabit.
• You may also see large herds of eland, which are the largest antelope in Africa.
• Impalas, topi, bushbucks, oribi, and reedbuck
• Warthogs and buffaloes roaming freely
• Rothschild’s giraffes, recently reintroduced to the park
• A rich variety of savannah and wetland birds
The open terrain makes wildlife viewing easy and photography rewarding, especially in the soft morning light. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest before beginning your transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe, marking the end of your Lake Mburo safari extension.
This short safari offers a gentle transition from high-altitude adventure back to city life, leaving travelers relaxed rather than rushed.
