Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo Forest, located within Murchison Falls National Park, is a popular activity for wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors can observe habituated chimpanzee communities in their natural habitats, learn about their behaviors, and enjoy the forest’s biodiversity.
This short but action-packed 3-day safari is ideal for those who don’t have much time but want to experience the finest of Uganda’s wilderness. It takes place in various environments and features a diverse spectrum of wildlife and beautiful scenery.
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Murchison Falls—Chimpanzee Trekking in Budongo Forest
After breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Begin the scenic drive northwards (approx. 5–6 hours), passing through Uganda’s countryside and the bustling town of Masindi for lunch.
In the afternoon, head to the Kaniyo Pabidi area of Budongo Forest for an exciting chimpanzee tracking experience.

Accompanied by a forest ranger, you’ll walk through tall mahogany trees, spotting colorful birds, monkeys, and butterflies, until you locate the chimpanzee troop and spend an unforgettable hour observing them.
Later, transfer to your lodge near or inside Murchison Falls National Park.
Day 2: Game Drive – Boat Cruise – Top of the Falls Visit
Begin the day early with a morning game drive on the northern banks of the Nile. Spot wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, lions, buffaloes, antelopes, and possibly a leopard. The open savannah and riverine landscapes offer incredible photo opportunities.

Return to the lodge for a full breakfast and relax until lunch.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Nile River, heading upstream toward the thunderous base of Murchison Falls. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and numerous bird species like kingfishers and fish eagles.
After the boat ride, drive to the top of the falls, where the Nile forces through a 7-meter-wide gorge, plunging 43 meters below a perfect photo spot and a true natural wonder.
Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Top of the Falls Visit (If Missed)—Return to Kampala or Entebbe
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast. If you didn’t visit the top of the falls on Day 2, you’ll do so this morning. Take in the stunning views and capture your last memories of the wild.
Check out of your lodge and begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. You’ll stop for lunch along the way and can visit roadside craft markets for souvenirs.
Drop-off will be at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport, marking the end of your safari.
