Day 7-13: Trek the Rwenzori Mountains.
An 8-day trip through the beautiful Rwenzori Mountains may allow you to see Margherita, Africa’s third-highest peak (5,109 m). This is the most scenic and demanding of all African treks. The Rwenzori Mountains are generally known as the “Mountains of the Moon.” Their trekking experience is unparalleled in East Africa.
Travel from the tropical foothills of Nyakalengija via verdant montane forests and bamboo zones to the Afro-alpine wonderlands, which are home to massive lobelias, everlasting flowers, and glacial lakes. As you go through filthy bogs, glacial moraines, and hanging valleys, you’ll be following the ancient Central Circuit Trail, which was first utilized by explorers over a hundred years ago.

As you travel down the trail, you’ll come across various ecosystems, from primate-filled lowland jungles to strange moss-covered woods, steep ridgelines, and freezing alpine views. The climb to Margherita Peak on Mount Stanley is the climax of the journey. For the brave, this is a thrilling, tough trek across the glacial plateau that requires crampons, ropes, and ice axes.
Along the way, stay in remote mountain huts, tell stories around campfires, and enjoy the stunning landscape of Rwenzori Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. With the assistance of expert local guides and porters, this journey into Africa’s last unknown alpine frontier is both a physical and spiritual challenge.
Regardless of your climbing experience or desire for a once-in-a-lifetime outdoor adventure, the Rwenzori Mountains offer an amazing experience at Uganda’s highest peak.
